History of American Speed

Our History

There were other car clubs but ours was different. We wanted our club to be about more than the cars, we wanted it to be about the people behind the wheel too. American Speed is about family, friendship and respect. We started out as a diamond in the rough, but over the years we've grown and refined. We began in 2005 with an idea and an e-mail. People liked what we were all about and we started meeting in a Best Buy parking lot. Come Friday and Saturday night, we could be found all over the city. Patrick Miesner, American Speed President, and Richard Nachby, American Speed VP, where two of the original founders and are still President and VP of their local chapter, in addition to their positions in the national community. Staying true to our commitment to family and friendship, our first sponsors were friends of the Miesner family and our personal parts vendors. Their businesses offered discounts for club members.

Over time our club grew, our sponsors grew and our recognition became greater. The club membership grew to over a hundred members in 2006. Until January of 2007, American Speed was a club for American-made cars. At that point, we began an imports division. By the end of that year, interest in the import division grew substantially. Since 2008, American Speed has really developed and has earned recognition on the car enthusiast scene. The rise of impotrs and the active members of American Speed as a whole have led to the accomplishment of many of our goals and the furtherance of our mission to create an environment that encourages active and supportive membership. We hope that participation in local car shows continues to increase and that American Speed becomes a nationally recognized community.

Louisville Muscle Chapter History

Louisville Muscle, based in Louisville, KY, was founded in March 2005 by four Louisville car enthusiasts. Later that year, the founders branched into two clubs; American Speed and Louisville Muscle. Shortly thereafter they merged, creating a nationwide community: American Speed. Louisville Muscle became the first local chapter. Louisville Muscle could be found all over the South End of Louisville. They have been showing their mods at cars shows since 2006 and aren't stopping anytime soon!

A Word from the Louisville Muscle Board of Directors

We started Louisville Muscle in 2005. We grew from a couple of guys who loved cars, to a lot of guys and girls who love cars and each other. Things were going well until the police came down on car clubs, including us for loitering. At this point, we shut down while we reorganized and regrouped, becoming the first chapter of American Speed. We had club meetings twice a month and began entering our rides into car shows and formed club meets. American Speed and our local chapter, Louisville Muscle, kicked off these new changes by entering into the Carl Casper's Custom Auto Show in February of 2006.

Louisville Imports Chapter History

Our goal to be inclusive and to embrace all car enthusiasts led American Speed to branch out from a club for American-made cars to all cars, domestic and foreign in 2007. The first chapter made especially for foreign cars is now known as the Louisville Imports Chapter. Louisville Imports and Louisville Muscle are sister chapters, sharing the same Louisville-based board of directors.

As imports became more popular, car owners began to show an interest in an imports chapter, and so Louisville Imports was born. We love all of our members and all kinds of rides. Our imports division is growing all the time, and our community is thriving on all of the diversity that cars from European and Asian manufacturers bring.

Shelbyville Chapter History

The Shelbyville Chapter of American Speed was founded early in 2009. There was a shortage of options on the car scene in Shelbyville, KY until the founders brought American Speed to the streets of their hometown. Tim Peed, Chapter President, and Aaron Walker, Chapter VP, were among the founders of this chapter. After seeing American Speed at the Carl Casper's Custom Auto Show in Louisville, they decided to open their own chapter in Shelbyville.

A Word from the Shelbyville Chapter Board of Directors

We began this chapter to bring the American Speed community so that Shelbyville and the surrounding area's true car enthusiasts, young and old, can have a place to come together and share their passion for mods. We are committed to growing, having fun and enjoying automobiles. Our goal is to encourage members to customize and personalize their ride, and to be proud of what they drive no matter what the make and model.
